Competitor research & enrichment plan
Eight in-depth teardowns of the tools we compete with, plus a ranked plan to enrich deptmatic and the pitch sites with what they do well — and where they're weak.
The reports
Full write-up (README.md)
What they all agree on
- They abandoned the small business. Real automation starts at $69–$1,000+/mo, per-seat, metered. deptmatic owns the vacated bottom.
- Human approval is the trust wedge. Leaders sell "drafts you approve"; the autopilot players are silent on control — our differentiator.
- A free tool is the universal front door. Ours (the audit) is both lead magnet and the product's first step.
- They win search the same way: one page per capability, FAQ schema + JSON-LD everywhere, comparison/definition pages, a coined term, quantified proof. GEO/AEO is the new battleground.
- Named agents / methodology loops make abstract AI tangible (Bosh, Quill, Content Score gauge).
The enrichment plan ranked by impact
Tier 1 — build first
- Free public "Marketing Department Audit" tool — no signup, URL → instant scorecard. Lead magnet + live demo + the answer to "agent-washing" skepticism. We already have the engine.
- Redesign the audit report — lead with a "Marketing Health Score" 0–100 gauge + sub-scores; a "Do these 3 first" quick-wins panel; a plain-language business consequence beside each finding.
- "Nothing ships without your approval" as a hero promise + a visible Approve / Edit / Ship queue mockup. The universal trust wedge; our edge over autopilot players.
- Homepage = the department org chart — a named cast (The Auditor, SEO Manager, Content Desk, Social Scheduler, Email Writer, Approval Queue). Our structural advantage: we're a whole department.
Tier 2 — SEO / positioning engine
- A named loop as the homepage skeleton: Audit → Draft → Approve → Ship → Measure.
- One landing page per role (/department/audit, /seo, /content, /social, /email) — each with FAQ schema + dual CTA (copies Jasper's /agents/*).
- Comparison + definition content hub — "AI marketing department vs agency vs freelancer," "deptmatic vs [each competitor]," "How much should a small business spend on marketing 2026" — TL;DR box + comparison table + FAQPage schema.
- Coin & own the SMB enemy — "the marketing-tool pile" / "marketing overwhelm."
Tier 3 — proof & answer-engine
- Quantified, named-outcome proof everywhere — before/after audit screenshots; sibling network as case studies; "[zero] → [outcome] in [timeframe]."
- AISO native + free — bundle "get cited by ChatGPT/Gemini/Perplexity"; ship FAQ + JSON-LD on every page (dogfood); publish original SMB data studies as citation bait.
- Pricing transparency — one clear low price: "No sales call. No quote. No per-seat. No credits."
- Authenticity high ground — never "undetectable"; "reviewed by you, in your real voice."
Guardrails: keep the subscription-only model (the free audit runs on our existing engine — no new API billing); dogfood everything — the pitch sites are the demo.
